Released from quarantine

Macron released from coronavirus quarantine

French president is no longer displaying symptoms of COVID-19.

French President Emmanuel Macron has been released from self-isolation just in time for Christmas eve, after he contracted the coronavirus.

The French president was diagnosed with COVID-19 last week, and went into self-isolation in the secondary presidential residence of la Lanterne on the outskirts of Paris.

But on Thursday, Macron was no longer displaying coronavirus symptoms, the Elysée said. “In accordance with the health protocol in force, the isolation by the president of the Republic can therefore end after seven days.”

Macron’s diagnosis forced a number of leaders who’d met with him, including Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa, to quarantine.

While he was sick, Macron continued to work on the “main current events” and was able to hold scheduled meetings, the Elysée said.
