Job performance low marks, Corruption Marks Highest...

Voters give Trump's job performance low marks

The president fared worst on climate change and global warming, while his best marks came for jobs and the economy.

On the third anniversary of his inauguration and on the brink of a historic Senate impeachment trial, voters are still giving President Donald Trump low marks on his third-quarter report card.

According to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll, just over two-in-10 voters — 21 percent of respondents — give Trump an "A" grade for the job he has done as president, and another 17 percent give him a "B." The 38 percent who give Trump an "A" or a "B" is equal to the 38 percent of voters who give Trump an "F" in the new poll.

Ten percent of voters surveyed assigned Trump a "C" grade and 11 percent gave him a "D." The remaining 3 percent were undecided.

Opinions of Trump’s job performance are little changed over the past year. The percentage of voters who gave Trump an "A" or "B" when POLITICO/Morning Consult last conducted the "report card" survey, at the midpoint of Trump’s term, was slightly lower: 34 percent, compared to 38 percent in the new poll. But the combined percentage who gave Trump a "D" or "F" ticked up a point, from 48 percent a year ago to 49 percent now.

Voters are sharply divided by party on Trump’s job performance. More than seven-in-10 Democratic voters, 71 percent, give Trump an "F" grade, while only a combined 5 percent give Trump an "A" or "B." Among GOP voters, eight-in-10, 80 percent, give Trump an "A" or "B," and just 13 percent give him a "D" or "F."

Roughly half of independent voters, 51 percent, give Trump a "D" or "F" — substantially more than the 31 percent who give Trump an "A" or "B."

The poll also asked voters to grade Trump on 10 different issues. The president earns the highest marks on jobs and the economy: 46 percent give him an "A" or "B" grade on those subjects, while the percentages who give him a "D" or an "F" are 33 percent and 36 percent, respectively.

Trump’s worst marks come on climate change and global warming: Only 21 percent give him an "A" or "B" rating, while 54 percent give the president, who has denied the existence of climate change, a "D" or "F."

POLITICO reported last week that Trump chewed out his health secretary, Alex Azar, over the GOP’s low ratings on health care — and the POLITICO/Morning Consult poll shows voters aren’t enamored with the president’s handling of the issue. Only 27 percent of voters surveyed give Trump an "A" or "B" grade when it comes to dealing with health care, while 50 percent give him a "D" or "F."

The POLITICO/Morning Consult poll was conducted Jan. 10-12, surveyed 1,996 registered voters via online interviews. The margin of error is plus or minus 2 percentage points.
