Good riddance

Donald Trump Jr. fires back at Andrew Cuomo's 'good riddance' message to his dad

Cuomo had seized on the news that Trump is changing his residency to Florida from New York.

Donald Trump Jr. took to Twitter Friday to hit back at New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s acid-tongued response of “good riddance” to the news that President Donald Trump is changing his primary residency from New York to Florida.

“Nice soundbite. Now do the tens of thousands of other successful New Yorkers and businesses fleeing your idiotic policies every week,” Trump Jr. wrote. “I’ll wait.”

Trump Jr. also alleged that Cuomo “begged” his father for money — presumably referring to Trump’s previous campaign donations to Cuomo. In July 2018, Cuomo said he would keep campaign contributions from the president, but remain “deeply critical of him.”

“Also I don’t remember this sentiment ever stopping you from coming to @realDonaldTrump’s office begging for $,” Trump Jr. wrote. “I was there. GOOD TIMES”

The New York Times first reported the president’s change in permanent residency, and Trump himself confirmed the news via Twitter Thursday night.

"1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the White House, is the place I have come to love and will stay for, hopefully, another 5 years as we MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, but my family and I will be making Palm Beach, Florida, our Permanent Residence," Trump tweeted. "I cherish New York, and the people of New York, and always will, but unfortunately, despite the fact that I pay millions of dollars in city, state and local taxes each year, I have been treated very badly by the political leaders of both the city and state. Few have been treated worse."

Documents filed at the Palm Beach County Circuit Court showed both Trump and first lady Melania Trump declared the Florida Mar-A-Lago address to be their primary residence — a place Trump has visited frequently throughout his presidency, the Times reported.

Cuomo reacted in a tweet shortly after the news broke: “Good riddance. It’s not like @realDonaldTrump paid taxes here anyway...He’s all yours, Florida.”
