U.S. President Donald Trump was dubbed “head alligator” of a swamp of his own making after two former senior allies were found guilty in court.
Guy Verhofstadt, leader of the liberal ALDE group in the European Parliament and a former Belgian prime minister, said on Twitter Wednesday that Trump had promised to “drain the swamp” in Washington, “but instead he created his own one and is acting as its head alligator.”
He added that Trump’s presidency, “one in which values and integrity do not seem to count, is detrimental to people’s faith in democracy.”
On Tuesday, Michael Cohen, Trump’s longtime lawyer, pleaded guilty to eight charges including campaign finance violations and implicated Trump in paying hush money to women with whom he allegedly had affairs.

"Trump said he would "drain the swamp" in Washington, but instead he created his own one and is acting as its head alligator. His Presidency, one in which values and integrity do not seem to count, is detrimental to people's faith in democracy. "
Minutes earlier, Paul Manafort, the president’s former campaign chairman, was convicted on eight charges of bank and tax fraud.
