London mayor trolls back Donald Trump

Sadiq Khan ‘has more important things to do’ than reply to American president’s ‘ill-informed tweet.’

London Mayor Sadiq Khan “has more important things to do than respond to Donald Trump’s ill-informed tweet,” his spokesperson said on Sunday.

In a statement emailed to the press, the Labour mayor office responded to the American president’s critical tweet earlier in the day.

Khan’s spokesperson said Trump took the London mayor’s “remarks urging Londoners not to be alarmed when they saw more police — including armed officers — on the streets” out of context.

Downing Street responded with a generic statement that didn’t address the Trump tweet.

Trump’s jibe at Khan drew criticism from Conservative British politicians, including Penny Mordaunt, the minister of state for the Department for Work and Pensions, and Britain’s EU Commissioner for the Security Union Julian King.

Daniel Hannan, a Tory MEP, tweeted that this was “not a great moment to insult the mayor of the capital city of your chief ally, Mr President. Alarm is the last thing we need right now.”

Simon O’Connor, a cabinet member for the European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs Pierre Moscovici, also slammed Trump for his lack of sensitivity in such a moment.

In separate tweets, the U.S. President also called for an end to political correctness and noticed that no one was bringing up gun control issues, since the weapons used by the terrorists were knives and a van.
