Two explosions on the St. Petersburg metro killed at least 10 people and injured many others, according to Russian state media Monday.

The Tass and Interfax agencies reported the blasts hit the Sennaya Ploschad and nearby Tekhnologichesky Institut stations in the center of the city.

According to the AP, said several metro stations in the city have been closed and passengers were evacuated.

Social media users posted photographs from Sennaya station showing a carriage with a mangled door.

Andrei Kibitov, a spokesman for the St. Petersburg governor, told Russian television 10 people had been killed and 50 injured.

“There was one blast in one site in between [stations] as the train arrived at the Technology Institute station from Sennaya [Ploshchad] station,” a source in the emergency services told Reuters.

All possible causes are being considered, including terrorism, said Russian President Vladimir Putin, who was in the city at the time.
