Trump on Cruz: 'Now all he can do is be a spoiler'

By Nick Gass

Donald Trump reveled in his New York primary victory on Wednesday morning, celebrating that Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has been mathematically eliminating from winning the Republican nomination before the July convention.

"Ted Cruz is mathematically out of winning the race. Now all he can do is be a spoiler, never a nice thing to do. I will beat Hillary!" Trump tweeted. The remarks are more definite than what Trump said during his Tuesday night victory speech: "Sen. Cruz has just about been mathematically eliminated."

While Trump is correct that Cruz is eliminated from winning the race outright with 1,237 delegates, that conclusion is only accurate if unbound Pennsylvania delegates are not factored into the equation.

Pennsylvania, which votes Tuesday, allocates its 71 total delegates, of which only 17 are pledged and the remaining 54 congressional-level delegates are unbound to any candidate.

According to the latest Associated Press estimate, Trump is set to receive 89 of New York's 95 delegates, while Ohio Gov. John Kasich is set to pick up three. The remaining three delegates are yet to be allocated, while Cruz was shut out completely.
