Presidential hopeful Ben Carson has a pretty weird theory about the pyramids
By Jessica Hamilton
The pyramids in Egypt were built to be tombs for pharaohs, thinks every person in the world except Ben Carson.
The Republican presidential hopeful's theory on the pyramids surfaced in a video posted this week in which he said the structures were built by the biblical Joseph to store grain. When asked, Carson said he stood by his theory, which he presented during his 1998 Andrews University address.
"My own personal theory is that Joseph built the pyramids to store grain," the retired neurosurgeon said. "Now all the archeologists think that they were made for the pharaohs' graves. But, you know, it would have to be something awfully big if you stop and think about it. And I don't think it'd just disappear over the course of time to store that much grain."
Carson reiterated this theory to CBS News by saying "the pyramids were made in a way that they had hermetically sealed compartments....You would need that if you were trying to preserve grain for a long period of time."
