If you have seen SpeedDream, the futuristic, flying keel sailboat that is a prototype for a larger record setter. Then Mx-Ray might interest you. It is a tad under 13 feet in length carrying a mainsail and spinnaker each around 80 square feet. The world of short-handed, high speed skiffs is exploding as sailors seek an affordable thrill ride without the hassle of finding crew. Moth and skiffs are among a group of super fast light boats that are thrilling to sail and watch. I am sure more of these types of boats are coming, stay tuned...
MX-RAY is a great example of a brilliant idea that didn't quite make it. If it would go upwind, if it would take a 210lb crew without starting to sink, if if if. All of the problems are solvable. Could someone do it soon please.
